The lessons in the advanced course includes information on plate tectonics, the rock cycle, subduction zones supervolcanoes, and megathrust earthquakes.

What is the Rock Cycle

The Rock Cycle is the never ending creation and destruction of rocks that occurs on our planet. Igneous rocks were all derived from magma, molten rock that cooled into solid rock. There are three major groups of sedimentary rocks. Clastic rocks are bits and pieces of older rocks that have been formed into new rocks. Organic rocks include coal and coral reefs. Chemical rocks, like salt, crystallize when older rocks dissolve and the minerals crystallize in shallow oceans or dried inland lakes. Metamorphic rocks form when heat and pressure causes older rocks to recrystallize without melting into new rocks.
