Civil Rights Movement

The Civil Rights Movement was a time when African Americans fought for their rights. This includes things such as voting rights, desegregation, and equal access to education and public facilities. The movement officially began with the Montgomery Bus Boycott in 1955, but its roots go back much further. Throughout the Jim Crow era and before, African Americans had been working towards equality. The Civil Rights Movement was successful in achieving many of its goals, though there is still more work to be done.

The movement has its origins in the failure of the Reconstruction Era to bring full political equality for blacks. Although the Civil War had abolished slavery, freed blacks still did not have full rights as citizens, and Reconstruction failed to guarantee them equality. In addition, blacks continued to face Jim Crow laws and racial segregation in many parts of the country. Inspired by the success of the African American civil rights movement in the United States, other minority groups, such as Native Americans, Chicanos, and Asian Americans, also began to organize their own movements for equality in the late 1960s.

Some famous names include Rosa Parks, Muhammad Ali, and Martin Luther King Jr. The Civil Rights Movement made a huge impact on American society and helped to improve the lives of millions of people.
