Interviewing
How to Learn Interviewing
The ability to interview effectively is a vital skill for anyone looking to further their career. An interview allows an employer to get to know an applicant on a personal level, and learn about their motivations, aspirations, and abilities.
Unfortunately, many people go into interviews without being fully prepared, and as a result, do not make the best impression. There are a few key things that you can do to make sure that you make the most of your interview and improve your chances of getting the job.
- Research the company ahead of time. This will help you be better prepared to answer questions about why you want to work there.
- Practice, practice, practice. This can be done by role-playing with a friend or family member, or by attending mock interviews at your school or local employment center.
- Be aware of your body language. Smile, make eye contact, and sit up straight. Avoid fidgeting, crossing your arms, or playing with your hair.
- Listen carefully to the questions being asked and take your time in answering. This shows that you are thoughtful and sincere.
- Be honest. Don't try to fake it until you make it. The interviewer will likely see through this and it will reflect poorly on you.
- Finally, follow up with a thank you note. This is a final opportunity to make a good impression and reiterate your interest in the position.
Finally, be sure to dress appropriately and arrive on time. First impressions are important, and you want to make sure that you give the interviewer the best possible impression of you.
By following these tips, you can improve your interview skills and increase your chances of getting the job you want.
