This book can be used for a person of any age interested in singing beautiful music. It is good to have more than one voice singing on each part since the music is somewhat complicated. At the end of the book when it is time to have a recital of all the pieces, invite other students or parents to join the graduates and sing along on the harmony parts.
The first song is “Annie,” and it appeals to those who have mastered singing the rounds in the earlier books. It can be sung in two or three parts with a “ground bass” (a line below the melody). On the CD each part is sung separately on its own track for faster learning. “Hungarian Round” is very lovely song in a minor key. A real winner in this book is the Christmas song “Fum, Fum, Fum,” sung in Spanish.
Level IV has many challenges. “Johnny with the Bandy Legs” is a South African folk song with a melody and a descant (a higher part to be sung above the melody). One of the prettiest songs in this set is a round in three parts, “May the Lord Bless and Keep You.” The whole family can be involved and never tire of it.
Students can sing along with the voice tracks on the audio CD until they know the songs and then with the accompaniment tracks only. Each of the books have music sheets with the chords; however, if you prefer to play with the music written out, use the Level IV Piano Accompaniment Book.
